As Ben, Denise and Stella prepared to watch Stella’s first Macy’s July 4th Fireworks from the comfort of home I walked to Maxwell Place Park, arriving around 8:30. The crowd was quite large and was growing by the minute. I made my way out onto the pier to check the vantage point. The perimeter viewing locations had already been occupied; note to self for next year: show up a little earlier.
The pier allowed for a good view of all the boats that had assembled to view the show…
Across from the pier in the park a group of friends who had shown up early had secured a very good spot.
Though the edge of the fence locations had been all taken, and had brought out a large array of some serious photographers with sophisticated equipment, I was able to find a place to set up that I hoped would allow for some good shots.
NYC’s skyline was a sight to behold and the Empire State Building proudly displayed the Red, White and Blue.
The weather was perfect and the sky was clear; the stage was set for what proved to be an awesome fireworks display.
Before heading out to enjoy the rest of the Holiday evening my friends Karen and Mario graciously agreed to pose for some pictures as I experimented with slow sync flash.
A good time was had by all and the 2010 Macy’s July 4th Fireworks showed once again why they are among the best in the world. It was, of course, extra special that this year’s extravaganza took place just three days after we welcomed Stella Harrison to the family; I think the lights all burned a little bit brighter as a result.
